My five year old and my two year old were playing with my Kindle Fire. They downloaded the Daily Deal from Amazon and so I was stuck owning this book.

But I read it anyway. I wanted to see what their literary taste was like. I was not really impressed with my kids on this score.

This is a sophmore novel from Bobby Cole revisiting characters from The Dummy Line. I did not read The Dummy Line so I had no investment in the central characters. And I didn't think Cole developed them enough to make me really care about them. I found the characters of Jake Crosby, Morgan and Katy to be rather flat and uninteresting.

However there are a number of other characters in the book which are interesting. I liked the character of Moon Pie (the chief antagonist) and the geriatric robbers who steal from him. Moon Pie's brother Levi is a likeable character.

There is enough twists in the storyline to keep you reading. I may have liked this better if I read Dummy Line first. But it is mindless fiction not good literature. Read if you read the first novel and like a piece of literary distraction.

A quickly paced, quick read! A father and daughter go turkey hunting in Alabama and come across a pack of felonious rednecks who immediately start trouble! The rednecks chase them, and two more people, and the sheriff and his deputies can't make head or tails of all the trouble! Shots ring out, blood gets spilled, and one man must do his best to protect those he can! Like I say it is a really quick read, and is even divided into 86 (!) chapters to facilitate the fast paced action!

a thriller set near the border of Mississippi and Alabama as a father and his young daughter are confronted by a gang of small-time but vicious criminals and must fight and run for their lives. A couple of teens returning from a session necking in the countryside are also caught up in the situation. Good story, writing a little pedestrian in spots, not bad for a first novel.

Suspenseful who-dun-it set in Alabama with colorful Southern characters. Good beach read.
