i was definitely interested in this concept. early on. enough so that i wasn't too bothered by some of the so-so writing. but by 2/3 of the way through, it really got tougher for me. she info dumps like crazy and gives us all this backstory that was clearly just being withheld before. it was way too late to give us that info and it was poorly done. by the end i was just annoyed with the execution and the "reveal" and thought it was unfortunate because the idea was a good one.

20 years after the disappearance and suspected murder of Myra’s 8 year old daughter...in walks in to your B&B, a woman and child that is a mirror imagine of what her daughter would have looked like if she was now 28! She even possessed a necklace that was engraved with her daughters initials and Myra just knew it was her long lost daughter!

Everyone is astounding and shocked, because miracles like this doesn’t happen everyday. But really who is Elizabeth Lark and is she Myra’s daughter?

If you like a book with a serious unexpected twist look no further, this one is for you! It was almost a little bit too unbelievable, otherwise I would have given it five stars.

“Elizabeth tries to breathe but can’t seem to fill her lungs. They have left the woods, and yet she is engulfed by the immense, dark forest where monsters hide in the night.”

Elizabeth Lark just escaped the remote cabin in the woods where she and her son Theo have been kept virtual prisoners for the last five years by her husband Peter, Theo’s father. Elizabeth fears she may have killed Peter with the pills she put in his drink to knock him out, but has to take the chance to run now. Since the plan is to hide where no one who knows her can find her, including Peter, she concludes she and Theo have to get on the road regardless.

As Elizabeth leaves Washington State on the advice of an online women’s advocate, she decides to stop at a local Inn on the Oregon coast for the night, one she remembers as a cash business. She immediately realizes it’s this was a very bad idea when the inn’s proprietor Myra mistakes Elizabeth for her own daughter Charlotte who mysteriously disappeared one night 20 years ago when she was 8 years old.

My Thoughts:
An entertaining read in a lovely, forested, Pacific-Northwest setting that kept me turning the pages until the end. The predicament main character Elizabeth finds herself in, of being mistaken for another woman, is a very interesting premise tailor-made for tension and nail-biting drama. I also found myself caring and worrying, with a maternal-like tenderness, about little Theo who is just a little boy who wants nothing more than friends and time to play.

Elizabeth’s decisions, or should I say reactions, are frustrating at times, yet she is likable and I found myself rooting for her. I was a bit disappointed, however, in the mystery that is the crux of the story. I’m not usually one to resolve the plot lines in advance, being happy to let the story unfold. Yet, I was able to predict this one pretty early on, and I found a significant plot point pretty unbelievable.

That said, this one should be popular with those suspense-thriller-mystery lovers out there, and I know there are lots of you! And it should especially appeal to fans of female leads as well as moody settings. In her debut novel, Call Me Elizabeth Lark, author Melissa Colasanti weaves a riveting thriller that easily draws the reader in with its suspenseful storyline set in the Oregon coastal town of Rocky Shores, that follows three women as they deal with a twenty-year old traumatic event that has devastated their family.

Twenty years ago Myra Barkley's eight year old daughter Charlotte disappeared from a beach across from the family's inn. Myra hasn't given up hope that her daughter would return home one day, even though everyone believes that Charlotte drowned.

Gwen Barkley has been dealing with guilt, anger, and anxiety since her younger sister Charlotte's disappearance. Gwen had been babysitting her sister, but while attending a beach party at the cove with her boyfriend and friends, Gwen wasn't paying attention to what Charlotte was doing until she couldn't be found anywhere on the beach.

Elizabeth Briggs escaped from an abusive marriage with her five year old son Theo. With the help of an abusive women's advocate / attorney named Alice Johnson, she is given new identification under the name of Elizabeth Lark. Elizabeth and Theo return to her hometown of Rocky Shores to plan out where to go next. Elizabeth and Theo seek shelter from a rainstorm at the Barkley Inn, but Elizabeth didn't count on innkeeper Myra Barkley thinking that she is the woman's missing daughter!

While Myra is sure that Elizabeth is really her missing daughter Charlotte, and Gwen deals with her ongoing guilt, Elizabeth is caught between the fine line of truth and lie. And if that isn't enough, there is someone out there who is determined to make sure that the truth behind the Barkley's girl disappearance twenty years ago never becomes known.

Call Me Elizabeth Lark is a riveting multi-layered tale told in the third person alternating perspectives by Myra, Elizabeth and Gwen. The author does a phenomenal job of delving into the slow-building and tension filled storyline interwoven with a dysfunctional family dynamic, and a tangled web of secrets, lies, and betrayals. It has enough intriguing and suspenseful twists and turns that leaves the reader with no other option than to keep turning the pages to find out what happens next. The reader will be kept in suspense until the suprising truth behind the Barkley daughter's disappeance is revealed. It just doesn't get any better than that!

Call Me Elizabeth Lark is an intense thriller that is a must read!
