Ante Ciliga

A fascinating view of the soviet Gulag system in its early days, before it had attained the level of ruthlessness described of later dacades by Solzhinisyn. I can imagine Solly sneering at Ciliga, bith as an unrepentant Socialist and as one who had it (relatively) easy. It is still an endictment of the system and shows that the rot set in well before the madness of Stalin. That siad Ciliga finds it blasphemously difficult to lay blame at the door of Lenin himslf.
