Review: This book I thought was interesting and I think my kids would think so too. It has true stories of when people had to survive in the shelter they made which I think gives the book complete perspective. This book really is a good skill to know and simple knowledge that could be helpful in some situations. I like the fact that it really breaks it down into section and steps of what structure to build depending on where you are and then also step by step how to build the structure. I’m also someone who is fond of the outdoors which is why this was such a fascinating book.

Summary: This book was about how you could build a structure to live in when you are stranded in the woods. This book really has good examples of what some situations people have been in and what they have done to survive. It also talks about emergency homes, natural shelters, where you should put that shelter and the basics of building it. The book talks about making shelter in all different kind of weather conditions and then at the end test your survival ability.

This book is an informational book that has information about different types of shelters: emergency homes, natural shelters, choosing a site, building basics, forest huts, jungle shelters, snow caves and graves, making an igloo, desert shelters, prairie homes, stone, sod, and log huts, and taking a tent.
This book is a good example of an informational book because it provides information about specific types of shelters and includes various facts about those shelters.

Summary: this book describes all the different ways someone could make a shelter to survive in all different types of areas/wilderness.
Media: Photographs and graphic design
Use: Outdoor survival project. When reading the famous book "Hatchet" I could use a portion of this book to describe what types of shelters that could have been made in the story. I could also use this book to help explain why different cultures/places in the world use various materials to build their homes.
Critique: Great book for students who aren't as interested in reading for literary purposes but are into being very active. I could see this book being a great way to get male student sin particular more excited about doing a project or reading in general! It was also accurate and useful information that could be applied and good to know for anyone who spends a good amount of time in any type of wilderness.

A quick, interesting read with a visually appealing format that may prompt some of my reluctant readers to actually read to learn. Included: interesting, quick "true stories" of survival, handy tips for surviving in all types of emergencies without too much detail, and vivid photographs & useful illustrations to engage the reader. I took the quiz at the end a week after reading to see if I retained any of the tips/strategies, and it turns out I did (enough to pass a multiple choice test). However, I think that in real life, I'll have forgotten all of it. It was just too brief of a course for me to really learn anything unless I paired my book experience with real outdoors experience, but after reading about people sawing their arm off, eating spiders to survive, and people ending a vacation with their head clamped between the jaws of a cougar, who wants to give it a try?… (plus d'informations)
