The text begins like a fantastic adventure tale, yet the story is true. I love the illustrations and photos -- so much to look at, so many different styles. Goes into great depth about giant squids and the attempts to find and understand them better. Much of the text and photos focus on one specific squid researcher, Clyde Roper. Includes: glossary, websites and books for further exploration, index, and about the authors.

Summary of the book
This book is chocked full of shark and oceanic facts. It also encompasses breathtaking photos and personal stories that bring the book to life. I literally couldn't put it down and enjoyed reading about all the different sharks, rays, and skate facts. My favorite were the Giant Manta Rays. This is a must have for all Shark lovers.

Personal reaction to the book
I truly enjoyed this book. The connection between the photos, facts, and personal stories of a world renowned shark photographer brought the book to life. This is a book I will definitely have in my classroom library.

Classroom Extension Ideas
1. During Shark Week (hopefully I'm not the only person obsessed with Shark Week) Read about a new shark everyday and have students take a quiz or write down their top 3 interesting facts.
2. Younger students can create a shark each day with our shark lesson from crafting supplies.
3. Junior High students- assign a shark for a report, must include a power point for presentation.
