MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is my first book by Barbara Casey, so I haven’t read any of The F.I.G. Mysteries, but this Book Five seems to be OK as a stand alone. There is quite a bit of back story so I had no trouble playing catchup. It seems like Caroline is in for some trouble and hoping the F.I.Gs can help. I was fascinated with this group of girls. They all ended up at Willow Ros Orphanage and Academy for Girls and formed a group and called themselves female intellectual geniuses, because all of the girls were very highly intelligent, each having gifts that were unique. And it was interesting to follow this group of characters as they developed so well throughout the book.

This is a YA, Middle grade book and I can see this age group loving this story. Barbara Casey does a fabulous job writing this story, and her amount of research is very evident in the detailed scenes in this book. If you enjoy Mystery and Fantasy type genre, you will enjoy this one as well. And you may want to look at the first four books in the series as well.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Seraphim's Song was another pretty good read for young readers by Barbara Casey. It is, also, the fifth book from her The F I G Mysteries series, I have only read one other book from the series and I believe each book can be read as a stand alone. It seems like enough information is given to keep readers up to date and feel as though they are not lost or missing anything from the previous books. It was fun for me to catch up with the F I Gs (Females of Intellectual Genius) to see what they are up to in this new adventure. I actually felt as if I was part of the F I G myself. I wanted to keep reading to see how the mystery is solved. There were a few scenes that were a little slow but it quickly picked back up and kept me intrigued to see what was going to happen next. This little journey was fun, entertaining and engaging.

I am giving Seraphim's Song four and a half stars. I still would love to read the first three books in the F I G Mysteries series to find out what happened previously, as well as, hope there will be a sixth addition to it. I believe teen readers who enjoy mystery and suspense will want to pick this one up.

I received a paperback copy of Seraphim's Song from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Jennifer Torres is one of three Intellectual Geniuses from the Wood Rose Orphanage. Each of the three girls has a special intellectual gift (language, math and the arts) and are mentored by their friend and teacher, Carolina. This is Jennifer's story. Together these women come together to use their strengths to help solve the mystery that Jennifer's parents may be alive.

This was a fast read and packed a quick mystery into a few chapters. This may be the shortest novel I have read that has held so much intriguing information inside. What I enjoyed most was the history surrounding the Nazi's stealing priceless works of art and watching it all tie into the plot smoothly. Outside of the historical aspect of this read there is a lot of wonderful themes of love, growth, family and embracing who you are as well as your strong points. There is even a bit of gypsy rituals and 'magic' that made my fantasy heart smile.

This is my first introduction to the FIG's and I was able to connect and fall into the story without reading the previous novels. It reminded me of the old school Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew novels that you could pick up and start anywhere and anytime. There are some parts that jump to a new scene that did leave a little confusion at times but it's easy to get your bearings back.

Overall, I enjoyed delving into this mystery with the FIGs. I was granted an arc from @ireadbooktours for an honest and unbiased opinion. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Friendship hooks up with a bit of girl-power in a grabbing mystery, which will have the reader guessing until the very last page.

Jennifer's parents died many years before, leaving her to be raised in an orphanage and later join the ranks of the FIGS. One night, while lost in her musical thoughts, she believes she sees them—an impossibility. Not sure what to think of it, she calls the FIGs together. It doesn't take long for them to group with several ideas as to how to discover the truth...or if there is one to discover. But they end up weaving their way into something much larger than they expected.

This book, although part of a series, can be read nicely as a stand-alone. The characters gain just enough background to give the reader a good handle on who they are before the mystery really gets underway. And what a mystery it is! While the beginning was a bit slow, and some spots might have moved a bit tighter, the story pulls along fairly quick-paced and holds tons of tension. It was impossible to guess the outcome as every page brought a new twist and turn. This isn't a book easily put down, and it's not a thick read, either. In other words, it's perfect to dive into and get lost in.

The idea of a group of young women coming together to support each other as they use their talents is inspiring. Despite each girl's extreme talent, they don't do anything alone but rely on each other. The friendship is true blue even when they don't always agree.

Not only fans of young adult mystery will enjoy this one, but even adults will find themselves engaged in the secrets behind Jennifer's past.
