It's always a bit of a slap in the face to realize how few options women had at certain times in history. Arabella and her twin Anabella lose the family store after their father's death. Anabella becomes a mail order bride--apparently with disastrous results though most details aren't included in this book. Needing money to pay for her sister's medical care, Arabella turns to the Pinkerton Agency.

Pinkertons matches her with a male agent and has them get married--and apparently, despite not much thought being put into the matches he makes, most of the couples end up falling in love and choosing to stay married even after their assignment is over, despite having the option to have the marriage annulled. (Which also brings up the question, if they do this and the people choose not to stay married, how many times can the same woman have a marriage annulled before people start to question it?

I don't see the attraction for Arabella based on the man's history. Yes, he does appear to be trying to change, but there is no guarantee that the change will stick or that it is true change at this point.

This book was a bit different than other mail order bride books I've read. First of all, 3 women travel to Hickory Stick, Colorado for the same man. (Two he seems to have corresponded with and invited and one who just seems to decide to come after seeing his information). Instead of being competitive, the 3 decide to band together. They decide they will find husbands in Hickory Stick, just not the man they thought they'd marry.

There is also a bit of mystery as it seems a woman was killed in the town in the past and someone attacks Sarah (one of the prospective brides) at the boardinghouse.

It's pretty obvious that the sheriff is sweet on Sarah, but she doesn't seem to feel the same way toward him--in fact, she is pretty much set on Thomas as her groom--so much so that she approaches him about it. (He turns her down because his heart belongs to Caroline.) This drives a bit of a wedge between Sarah and Caroline.

What a fun, clean, wholesome romance story! Feeling the need to "save face' plus a spirit of rebellion, Libby, with her tag-along-aunt, escapes to gain independence. She begins to wonder what she was thinking as series of events take place. Nothing worked out as she planned - almost nothing.

Continued action until the very end, keeping one in suspense makes this a very worth while book to read. Occasionally there is a small lapse of adventure but the final chapters make up for it

This book has a variety of characters which are very well-defined..They seem very real. The book cover is colorfully eye-catching and perfect for the story.description of the background scenes are very vivid.

This book has earned my review, giving it a Five Stars rating.
