A Subaltern's War par Charles Edmonds
Well-written personal memoir of a young British officer on the Western Front. Part of the canon of WW1 literature.
1217. Soldier From the Wars Returning, by Charles Carrington (3 May 1973) This is a British officer's story of his time in World War One. He arrived in France in 1915, was sent to Italy at the end of 1917--after going thru Passchendaele--and was in England in 1918. The book alternates between his personal experiences and the larger view of the war as he remembers it. This is not a well-organized book, and its aim is random, but it has its moments. He says Edmund Blunden's Undertones of War (read by me 18 May 1973) is literature, all the other WW1 books are only mementos of the occasion.… (plus d'informations)
