Biting The Stick par Susannah Carlton
A fiction book that tackles the difficult topic of female genital mutilation and how it affects a student support counselor when she stumbles on a cutting party on a university campus in the UK. As with all things that take on a human perspective what action should be taken is neither straightforward or simple.. although you can't help thinking it should be! It's a good book.
Lonely Mirrors is an examination of a man's life after he succumbs to temptation and engages in a wartime romance while away from his family in a far off country.
The story is told through the perspectives of the people affected by his affair, wives, daughters, mistresses are all involved in this family saga.
Not all the characters are shown in a good light as jealousy, hypocrisy and selfishness are displayed alongside true love, honour, duty and integrity. Some of the feelings explored would be considered misplaced in a new contemporary world.
