A Sweet and Cheerful Winter tale

This was a good choice for a winter themed read aloud. I chose it for my second grade remote story time. Students completed book reviews which were all thumbs up!

Kids Books Christmas Books = My Guilty Pleasure

I was SO PUMPED to find this book for free via Bookbub! I absolutely love a cute children's book and adding in some holiday spirit just made it all the better!

We open this book with Zoey visiting Mr. Hoopeyloops, and boy is she upset! Didn't you know?! Christmas is canceled! Santa has a bit of a labour issue (and who doesn't these days?) which ruins everything! So, Mr. Hoopeyloops grabs his friend Rex and they set off to save Christmas! How could he help, you might ask. Well, turns out Santa Claus is his brother!

While this is a picture book, it's a little longer than the typical children's book I've been finding lately. It has paragraphs beside the pages, which I absolutely love! I miss the days where children's books had longer plots! I'd recommend this book for five to twelve year olds, because it's an absolute delight!

I absolutely love the art style. It's soft yet busy and fits perfectly with the story. I'd highly recommend reading this book just for the art alone! It's probably my favourite picture book this year.

At the very end of this book, there's a little educational moment about the history of glass Christmas ornaments. Having those educational side notes always makes me a very pleased reader, so that only made this book better! This could easily be used in a classroom or for reading buddies!

Overall, this book is absolutely marvelous! I was stunned at how great it is and I would highly recommend it!

Five out of five stars! Spread the Christmas cheer!

I found this book for free via Bookbub.

Alabama Oh and the Art Festival is a super cute picture book by Andi Cann!

Alabama Oh and Pierre Noir Blanc are schoolmates who worked really hard to make the town colourful. The town decides to throw a giant art festival, which both children are super excited about! Especially since they get to organize it! Our little event planners have to convince a fellow neighbour that the art festival is a great idea, and off they went on their adventure!

This book centering on art is absolutely great! It advocates for different kinds of art in a children's picture book world. At the end of this book, there's a little write up about sculptures being art, which I found quite refreshing! Education is key for books like this, even in the littlest, fun forms!

I really enjoy the illustrations in this book! They are cartoon-y and colourful, which is everything I want in a children's picture book.

I also think the story is delightful and fun, packed tight with tons of learning! I can totally hear all the kids going "yuuuuuuck" as I typed that statement. This book could easily be read to kindergarteners all the way up to grade three. Reading buddies would absolutely love this book!

On another note: I read these books out of order, due to the books taking a long time to load on my app (my internet was bad the day I decided to read them, it has nothing to do with the amazing quality of these books) and found that they were relatively easy to follow. It is nice knowing what happened before for this series, but it's not the greatest concern if you pick them up out of order.

Overall, this book is amazing! It's a great addition to your picture book or children's bookshelf! Get those TBRs started early!

Four out of five stars!

Another marvelous read by Andi Cann!

I'm really enjoying the Alabama Oh series - it's super sugary sweet and cute! I might be reading them out of order, but I still find this series to be quite great! There's no reason to not just jump into this series, no matter what number you end up at.

So, Alabama Oh is a local celebrity artist now. This little girl is suddenly sassy from all of the game! Suddenly, a new boy comes to town named Pierre Noir Blanc and he is also an artist! But Alabama believes she is the best and no one else's opinion matters! Suddenly, attention was all over Pierre and not Alabama, which frustrates her. She learns to cope with differences throughout the story.

Pierre Noir Blanc being inspired by Ansel Adams was super cool! And the fact that this book shows photography as a form of art is also wickedly awesome! I think this series is doing a great job exploring artists (like the series title suggests).

These books are super colourful, educational and very sweet. I really like the way Andi Cann has crafted these stories and I highly recommend picking up these books for your picture book and children's bookshelves.

Four out of five stars.
