A propos de l'auteur

Thomas Joseph Cade was born in San Angelo, Texas on January 10, 1928. After serving in the Army in 1946 and 1947, he received a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Alaska and a master's degree in 1955 and a Ph.D. in 1957 from the University of California, Los Angeles. After joining afficher plus the faculty at Syracuse University, he began experimenting with breeding the American kestrel and peregrine falcons. In 1967, he became the director of the ornithology laboratory at Cornell University. He joined with other falconers, conservationists, and universities to help the endangered peregrine falcon. The bird had disappeared from the East Coast and was struggling elsewhere in the United States because use of DDT had weakened the shells of its eggs. By the early 1970s, Cade and associates had successfully bred peregrine falcons in captivity, and by 1980 falcons released in the East had reproduced in the wild. In 1999, the federal government removed peregrines from the endangered species list. He helped found The Peregrine Fund and was the organization's founding chairman. In the mid-1980s the fund relocated to the World Center for Birds of Prey in Boise, Idaho. Cade finished his career at Boise State University and retired in 1993. He wrote several books. He died on February 6, 2019 at the age of 91. (Bowker Author Biography) afficher moins
