The Foundation Of Literacy: The Child's Acquisition… par Brian Byrne
The foundation of this book is the learnability theory of the alphabetic orthography. The argument is that unless you start with an alphabetic assumption, the data you (English learner) observe is consistent with a syllabic or a morphological hypothesis. And from there on Byrne showed that indeed kids do NOT start from alphabetic. The conclusion is that explicit teaching is necessary. There are a number of critical points that requires further examination.
