Rebecca S. Buck

Yay for a moderately quick book starting with the letter Q! I've enjoyed Rebecca Buck's work in the past so I had no doubt that I'd like this one, especially since the subject is something dear to her. I knew that it would be well researched and entertaining and she didn't let me down. Each short story has historical significance and the author gives us a little extra insight to boot.

A friend asked if it was depressing and I have to say that, while some of the stories were sad, there were plenty of happy endings, too.

If you like reading historical novels, you very well will enjoy this book.

I already knew that I'd enjoy Hope in the Heart of Winter because I'm a fan of the author's previous work. Buck has a way of capturing an era and dropping the reader right where she wants us and making us believe we're there. Buck has a great writing style and it never takes long for me to be swept up in the world she creates.

I haven't read the book that these characters first appeared, Ghosts of Winter, but now I'd like to. This is a very, very short story capturing one evening but I felt for Evadne and want her to find happiness. And I want to know how everything turned out!
