There has been a lot of interest in Mayan society over the past several centuries. More so today because of the prophetic Mayan calendar, but this book does not get into that. What Brunhouse does write about, are the early adventurers that traversed the Central American jungles from the late 18th to early 20th century. Their common quest was to try and decipher the mysterious Mayan Culture. Of the eight men to pursue this task, none were scientist. Archaeology wasn't even a science or profession, so most of their conclusions were off the mark.
