The story concerns a Texas Ranger (Travis Parker) who is assigned to deliver the money from a cattle drive to the rancher who sold the cattle. He is ambushed and the money stolen. Close to death, Parker is saved by a group of Tonkawa warriors and eventually returns to Texas. Suspected of stealing the money, he is drummed out of the Rangers and sets out to find the group that ambushed him and clear his name. The story begins as he is encountering the first of those he suspects are guilty of his ambush. Of course there is a winsome lass who turns out to be the love interest.

This book is rather boring and the story is implausible. He was apparaently so seriously injured in the ambush that the Tonkawa's expected him to die. Yet when he returned to the Rangers they apparently did not believe his story despite his grevious injuries and the horrendous scars that document his injury.

Parker is somewhat dense, managing to get himself captured by the antagonist on numerour occasions. I think it was four times but did not feel like going back and actually counting the number of instances. The author lacks imagination as well as a falir for developing multidimensional characters and bringing scenes and events to action with clever language. In short, this book is a waste of time.

I think this is the first of Brown's books I have read. I will be looking for his other titles. This one was off the mark immediately and the action never stopped.
