Someone should re-write this book with more historical perspective. These are very interesting people. This book is very dated. Not to be reductive, but Mr. Brown's author photograph features him smoking a pipe. That said, he writes very well, and it's hard to imagine many people writing as critically, but loyally, as he did.

Psychoanalysis is frequently used as a catch-all term to describe the many schools of thought which take their origin from the work of Freud - however much they now diverge from it. For those seeking a more informed exposition of the basic concepts of psychoanalysis and its subsequent developments Freud and the post-Freudians provides the ideal introduction.… (plus d'informations)
