I suspect that if a person wasn't already familiar with The Three Musketeers by Alexadre Dumas, this book would be somewhat confusing, or at least less meaningful. As a children's book, it is entertaining, but I doubt that children of the age for which this book is intended have actually already read The Three Musketeers.
I got this book as part of the Early Reviewers program. I thought it was a good introduction to the characters from Three Musketeers classic. My kids are getting close to being able to read chapter books and this is definitely going to be one that I will strongly encourage them to read.
It's a sweet story, and although in places the wording was awkward, it wasn't so bad as to make me want to toss it. The age range is about on target for the story.
The previous reviewer who questioned why they were speaking English in France- they weren't. To the boys (and we English readers), it seems they are speaking English, but to everyone else they are speaking French. One of the boys asked the same question in one of the chapters and D'artagnon confusedly told him they were speaking French.… (plus d'informations)
Lovely sweet book!!! I can't wait to see what else he writes. Now I want to read The Three Musketeers even more! This book could definitely be instrumental in encouraging young people to read classics.
