A collection of short stories. I wrongly thought these would be uplifting, or at the least humorous, but found them oddly depressing.

A couple were well written, however none were particularly upbeat or would encourage me to look up anything else by those authors. Disappointing.

"Women of a Dangerous Age" by Fanny Blake was a decent enough read. Two women, Lou and Ali meet while vacationing in India. Lou has decided to leave her husband, Hooker, after twenty years of marriage. Ali, a serial mistress, is looking forward to finally settling down with her boyfriend, Ian. Who claims to be leaving his wife and wants a life with her. Their lives intermingle once they return from India. There are several ups and downs in their lives that keep the plot interesting. I enjoyed how Ms. Blake kept the plot going. The ending was also a positive for me. If you are looking for a light read, this may be the novel for you.… (plus d'informations)

I don’t have a lot to say about this collection. I have never been a big fan of short stories, feeling that they tend to be over just as one is starting to get the measure of them. Of course, that is a ridiculously sweeping judgement, and there have been some glorious examples of the form. Sadly, none of them seem to have been contributed to this volume.

An enjoyable collection of short stories by ten well-known authors (although I only recognised five of them). The theme is a fresh start of some kind, whether in a job, a romantic relationship, a family connection, an inheritance, or moving on from a relationship.

The writing is crisp, the stories well-crafted, and the genre quite a mixture, from a light thriller to a gentle family story. It was an ideal book to read over a busy couple of days, as I could delve into one story and then put the book down without wondering what was coming next.

Recommended. Suitable for older teens and adults, more geared towards women than men.
