A weird choice for leisure reading, I know. I wanted to know more about the old mill and town near Griffin Georgia. Ended up learning quite a bit about the evolution of the rubber industry in the U.S. and it is was kinda interesting.

In Fragile Paradise, Mansel G. Blackford deftly examines the complex environmental and social problems the island of Maui faced during the last four decades, paying particular attention to the challenges posed by tourism. The subject of Blackford's study is the complicated interactions between local interests that arise from efforts to find broadly acceptable solutions to the problems of physical isolation, reliance on a limited economy, and population growth in a limited physical environment.
