Connie Berry, award-winning author of traditional mysteries, discovered her love for storytelling when her dream of becoming an archaeologist ended. Realizing the field involved more than unearthing lost tombs, she turned her passion for history and antiques into creating the enchanting Kate Hamilton Mystery series. Set in the United Kingdom, this captivating series follows an American antiques dealer with a knack for solving crimes and her partner-in-detection, Detective Inspector Tom Mallory. Drawing from her unique upbringing, Connie mirrors her own experiences in the series.

Raised by charmingly eccentric antiques collectors who opened a shop, not to sell antiques but as an excuse to keep buying them, Connie developed a deep appreciation for history, fine art, and travel. With a bachelor's degree in English from DePauw University, Connie furthered her education at the University of Freiburg in Germany and St. Clare's College, Oxford, where she fell under the spell of the British Isles. She later earned her master's degree in English Literature at The Ohio State University, diligently typing her thesis at a child-sized table in her sons' playroom.

Connie's debut mystery, A Dream of Death, garnered critical acclaim, winning the IPPY Gold Medal for Mystery and becoming a finalist for both the Silver Falchion and Agatha awards. The Kate Hamilton Mystery series has grown to include four novels: A Dream of Death, A Legacy of Murder, The Art of Betrayal, and the Edgar-nominated The Shadow of Memory. The fifth installment, A Collection of Lies, will be published in 2024.

Adding to her repertoire, Connie's first novella, the holiday-themed Mistletoe and Murder, releases on October 17, 2023. Crooked Lane Books publishes her works, and agent Paula Munier proudly represents her at Talcott Notch Literary Agency.

A true Anglophile, Connie's love for all things British permeates her writing. When she's not penning her gripping mysteries, she enjoys indulging her passions for history, foreign travel, and cute animals. She finds inspiration in the world around her, bringing her readers captivating stories that transport them to the charming villages and enchanting landscapes of the United Kingdom. Connie resides in central Ohio and northern Wisconsin with her husband and their adorable dog, Emmie.

I was initially a bit put out that Kate and Tom's wedding would be relegated to a holiday novella. But the marriage was a perfect cap to the mystery that pulls them both in and out of wedding plans as they search for missing coins, a missing friend and an unknown fiance. Kate apprehension at her second marriage--late flights, mishaps with the dress are relatable, but happily sorted out by the end.

This is a very enjoyable, fast-paced novella in the Kate Hamilton series. In it, Kate and her husband to be, Tom, try to solve a mystery while also preparing for their Christmas-time wedding.

Great characters and an interesting plot.

I'd recommend this to fans of cozy mysteries and/or to fans of Christmas mysteries.

(I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via Net Galley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.)

This was a good, quick, holiday mystery. It has all the good stuff: Christmas in an English village; a wedding; a mystery; families both found and born.I loved it. A great, short addition to a great series. Highly recommended.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this novella.

England, law-enforcement, missing-persons, wedding, family-dynamics, family, friendship, suspense, small-business, small-town, antiques, relatives, relationships, widow, widower, series, novella*****

A wedding, a valuable coin, a missing friend.
Plus relatives coming in from Milwaukee, Cleveland, and Kenya.
A widowed antique dealer with a shop Ohio who grew up in Wisconsin, Kate is managing the antiquities shop in England with her elder friend Ivor. Tom is a DI in Suffolk who might be leaving the force to work for a friend in a private investigation firm after their wedding at Christmas. There is a bit of wedding madness but that gets underplayed when one of Kate's good friends goes unaccountably missing and more. Lots of suspense, red herrings, and fascinating plot twists! A great short read from a fine series that can easily stand alone.
I requested and received an EARC from Crooked Lane Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
