Good second chance story. In the previous book in the series, His Surgeon Under the Stars, Lia's best friend Jordan called her with the unexpected news that Lia's missing fiancé was working as a doctor at the same Antarctic science station. Determined to find out why Wes disappeared without a word right before their wedding, Lia signs on for a stint as a station doctor. To say that Wes was shocked to see her would be an understatement, and he's not quite sure how to handle her presence.

I liked both Lia and Wes and hurt for them both. Wes fled from England, and Lia, wracked with guilt over the death of his younger brother. He blames himself and is sure that if he were to marry Lia, he would only hurt her too. Lia is determined to confront Wes over his desertion since she had believed they were deeply in love. Now she questions whether he loved her at all, a feeling exacerbated by issues with her family back in Portugal.

It's evident from the start that the sparks between Lia and Wes are as strong as they've ever been. Working closely together gives Lia a chance to chip away at the walls, Wes has put up around his heart. There are some terrific scenes of their teamwork, which emphasize how well they understand each other. There's also a sweet scene at the beginning as Wes's protectiveness finds him helping Lia adjust to the bone-chilling cold and perpetual night. As Lia works to help Wes overcome his guilt, Wes is determined to earn her forgiveness, even if he isn't sure he deserves it. Their road back to each other isn't a smooth one, and both make some mistakes along the way, but ultimately, love overcomes all obstacles. I loved the romantic wedding with the incredible backdrop of the southern lights.

I received a complimentary copy of this book as a part of a book tour in exchange for a fair and honest review. I rated it 4 out of 5 Stars.

While I’ve read numerous Harlequin romance books in the past, Craving Her Rough Diamond Doc by Amalie Berlin is the first Harlequin Medical romance I’ve ever read. Not exactly sure what to expect, I was pleased with Ms. Berlin’s debut novel and my dip into the medical romance genre. Adding just enough medical jargon and situations to make the story interesting, I found myself turning the pages to discover what situation the characters would find themselves in next.

A nurse with commitment issues, Imogen Donally, agrees to help Amanda, her best friend from college, by working as a travelling nurse while Amanda is on bed rest during her pregnancy. While staying someplace six months is a long commitment for Imogen, she’s never been in the Appalachian Mountains and looks forward to her new experience. At least until she meets Dr. Wyatt Beauchamp, the man she’s agreed to work for.

Born and raised in the mountains, Wyatt Beauchamp wants to give the people he loves and respects the best medical care he can afford. Working with his cousin, Amanda, as his nurse has made his task easier. Dealing with a complete stranger who will probably hurt his practice in the long run is definitely not part of his plan.

The scenes between Imogen and Wyatt are well written and showcase two strong, and stubborn, individuals who both have a genuine call and natural gift for being in the medical field. Ms. Berlin does a good job developing both characters; while Wyatt is standoffish and a little difficult at first, it’s understandable because of what he’s trying to accomplish. For her part, Imogen has her own issues; she’s reluctant to commit, has self esteem issues and is very stubborn to boot.

Perhaps because of their initial issues, their mutual attraction is hot and undeniable. While they try to avoid becoming involved, due to professionalism and the fact it’s supposed to be a short term situation, they simply can’t say no. Forced to deal with the issues from their pasts, Wyatt and Imogen find themselves falling in love and learning to accept each other.

Will Imogen agree to extend her time in the mountains? Will Wyatt realize Imogen is the perfect partner both in life and in medicine? You’ll have to read Craving Her Rough Diamond Doc to find out. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more from this new author.
