Dom Caffrey heads to Ulster to trace the parents who gave him up for adoption to America at birth. He certainly doesn’t expect to get arrested for murder, nor does he think he’d get embroiled in an historic case of human cruelty perpetrated by the nuns at the maternity home at Shearwater Point.

Throw in a series of racist and homophobic fire-bombings, plus a plot to disrupt the impending visit to Northern Ireland of the President of the United States of America and you’ve got all the elements of a cracking thriller.

The main characters are interesting and distinguishable. The writing style flows easily and the plot includes enough twists and reveals to keep it interesting throughout.

Overall this was a decent thriller that delivered a great story that was easy to read

I received this as a Library Thing Member Giveaway review copy. I thoroughly enjoyed the concept of the tale in fact it is all too believable. Set during 2020 Christmas period, with the Covid virus as an active participant, a former KGB officer, who has made his home in London, finds himself in danger after his best friend - also a former KGB officer is killed by a car bomb just after they have left each other after having an evening meal together. The body count quickly piles up, today's hitmen are really no match for a hardened old man who is pissed off that not only has his old comrade been killed, but also they kill his dog - his sole companion. Shades of John Le Carre are through the book, but, I think , with a lot more humour. Very enjoyable.… (plus d'informations)
