I enjoyed this book. It follows three Australian women who married American G. I.'s after the end of World War II and came over on a ship to the United States to join their husbands.
For each of them, their marriage does not turn out the way she thought it would.
Dawn: a war widow and new bride with two daughters finds a home in Ohio with her in-laws while her husband is in the Navy.
Sheila: a teenager who moves to the hills of Virginia with her husband, Billy.

I started reading this story because my husband's aunt lives in Beaufort, is a military widow, and has 3 grown daughters. Well, the resemblance ends there. I did not like the characters in this book. They were so unlikable.

The story is told from the point of view of the mom and two of the sisters. Not sure why the third (unlikable) sister didn't get her fair share with a chance to speak. The uncle is okay. Middle sister is a piece of work.

I struggled to get through this. My impression of southern people after reading this is that they are nosy busy bodies who are polite to your face and back stab you later. I'm not saying they are, I'm saying the people in this book are not good people. Be curious to see what Mike's aunt would think of this book.… (plus d'informations)

This book has been one of my favorites , Julia is a wonderful leading lady, some one I would want to know.
