I found “The Jewel in the Forest” by Gale Bates and illustrated by Carole Hinds McCarty. The art in this book definitely goes great with the story of the ‘O’o bird and the blessing it gives to the hula girls before they go into competition. The art enhances the tale in a quiet sort of way and the feeling of the soft edges and tropical colors create an important presence. This book goes into the details of the song they sing to the bird in order for it to appear, translates it into English. I would like to find the song and listen to it tonight!… (plus d'informations)
