A good read for a survey work, covering the major events & the powers that survived the onslaught of the French Revolution & Napoleon. As the powers struggled to maintain the ideal balance of equal strength, the political, military, & social realities & weaknesses eventually led to war
2342 Castlereagh, by C. J. Bartlett (read 21 Nov 1990) This is a 1965 study--not really a biography--of a most important English (born in Ireland) statesman. He was born in 1769 and committed suicide 12 Aug 1822--at the height of his powers. He was leader of the House of Commons from 1812 to 1822, and Foreign Secretary at various times. The book deals with an interesting period and was worth reading.
