This was a pleasant surprise. I do have a Goodreads shelf: "Fun or enjoyable read." I would have added this novel to that shelf, except that there were deaths from homicide. It was a good read, and I did enjoy it.

The cover of the book is a bit deceptive. I think it needed some gingham. It seemed that this was going to be another "girlie book." Instead [a: Christy Barritt|770315|Christy Barritt|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1420043136p2/770315.jpg] skidded around the corner in her classic car and sped this reader into mystery and intrigue.

There was a mix of serious topics covered. Political corruption, drugs, inner-cities, poverty affecting families, and cancer. Protagonist Holly Anna Paladin comes from a privileged background. It is refreshing that she loves people of other color, and backgrounds.

There is an undercurrent of faith that flows through the book, without becoming cloying. The writing is good, I could not stop reading this until the last page. I liked the characters and hope to see more of this type of work from Christy Barritt.
