This book chronicles the adventures of Sylvia, Rae, Margaret, and Gwendolyn, British women who experienced the friendly invasion of GIs from the United States during World War II. During the course of the war, each of these women would fall in love and eventually marry one of the many American GIs. They would later immigrate to the United States after the war to be with their new husbands. Far better than I thought it would be. Excellent use of oral history to create what feels like a merging of memoirs and a novel. I laughed and cried (although to be fair, I was a bit hormonal). Would love to see this made into a tv series.

GI Brides explores the lives of four British women who marry American soldiers during World War II. They fall in love with a military soldier, marry, and emigrate to the United States with their military husbands. While each woman married for love, they mostly struggled with their new life in the United States. What followed was mostly disappointment and sadness. This was a rather depressing read overall, but I was glad I read it. I'm sure it was an extremely difficult time. I liked the content, but the writing was poor. I won this through a LibraryThing giveaway! Thank you!… (plus d'informations)
