There's a very basic 2 page timeline of key features of each decade's fashion (1920s-1970s). Main part of the book is broken up into chapters cover Dresses, Blouses and Detailing, Skirts, Pants and Shorts, Suits and Coats, Lingerie, Headwear and Gloves.

Each section looks at different styles of that particular garment, how to wear that particular style now for a modern look, and gives one or two patterns to make up. So for example, the Dress section looks at the 1920s Flapper Dress, 1920s onwards Little Black Dress, 1930s Bias Cutting, 1930s/50s/70s Halter Neck, and 1950s Natural Waist.

15 patterns are given on a CD-Rom to print out, and the back of the book has a chapter on Dressmaking Basics, and another one on different construction methods.

Pictures given at chapter headings are not of garments containted in the book (annoying). There are lots of pictures of pattern envelopes and people wearing examples of particular garments, but actual patterns given are not that exciting. Information on particular decades is fairly brief. Probably good for someone who didn't have much of an idea about how to update vintage styles.
