The bright pink of the cover image stared at me from the display on clothing at the library for weeks before I finally grabbed it off the table. It is heavy and glossy and filled me with a quiet, soft joy.

Nothing that can be said about the sari can be said briefly. It is a garment that has a history and connection to a place and tradition that cannot even begin to be separated. It is no small thing to wear a sari: it automatically places you in society and age (and perhaps in pretentions to different a status in society).

This book is a very manageable read. The language is clear and it is organized in a way that allows many facets of experience to be addressed and discussed relatively fully. There are many images in the book, and all of them are communicative and aid in the story.

I find that I would like to know more of the history of sari now and expect that may be difficult to find.… (plus d'informations)
