Ingeborg Bachmann (1926–1973)

Ich scheue mich, einen privaten und intimen Briefwechsel, der nie für die Öffentlichkeit bestimmt war, mit Sternchen zu "bewerten". Trotzdem kann ich gar nicht anders, als die höchste Bewertung abzugeben für das, was dieses Buch in mir ausgelöst hat. Selten hat mich eine Lektüre so gebannt und bis in die Träume hinein beschäftigt wie dieser Briefwechsel, der sich stellenweise liest wie ein großer, sorgfältig komponierter Roman über die eine alles entscheidende Begegnung im Leben, die die ganz Klaviatur der tiefen Gefühle spielt - Liebe, Leidenschaft, Eifersucht, Trauer, Verzweiflung - und die das ganze weitere Leben beeinflusst. Bewegend, erschütternd, tieftraurig, und dabei ganz große Literatur. Dass es eben keine erfundene Geschichte ist, sondern das "wahre Leben", dass es nicht nacherzählt ist, sondern durch die Korrespondenz quasi "in Echtzeit" miterlebt wird, macht die ganze emotionale Wucht dieses Briefwechsels aus.
Natürlich habe ich mich vor der Lektüre gefragt, ob man das darf - einen Briefwechsel ganz gegen den Willen zumindest einer der beteiligten Personen veröffentlichen. Ich bin mir auch nach der Lektüre noch nicht sicher, ob es moralisch richtig ist. Richtig ist es aber doch in dem Sinne, dass durch die Veröffentlichung des Briefwechsels einige Mythen und Legenden über diese berühmte Beziehung widerlegt werden konnten.
Ganz abgesehen davon: Wenn man erst mal angefangen hat - immer ein bisschen mit dem schuldigen Gefühl, verbotenerweise durchs Schlüsselloch zu schauen, heimlich an der Tür zu lauschen oder in einem zufällig gefundenen fremden Tagebuch zu blättern - lässt es einen ohnehin nicht mehr los.
Ich empfehle die kongeniale Lesung mit Johanna Wokalek und Matthias Brandt. Das Buch sollte man allerdings zusätzlich zur Hand haben, um - parallel oder in einem zweiten Durchgang - die Anmerkungen, Kommentare und Einordnungen mitzulesen. Und, um es immer mal wieder irgendwo aufzuschlagen und sich in einzelne Briefe zu vertiefen. Denn fast jeder Brief ist große Literatur.… (plus d'informations)

Bachmann szereplői nagyon nem érzik jól magukat. Valami kizökkentette őket az időből. Eltévedtek benne. Ezek a történetek olyanok, mint a labirintus*: a tudat elnyújtott kacskaringóiban bolyongunk egy rémes belső terem felé, és véletlenül nincs nálunk a fonál. Ez nem baj – én szeretem az olyan írásokat, amik nem érzik jól magukat. Szoktam is mondani a szerzőknek: gyertek, vágjátok belém a szuronyt! Forgassátok is meg! Kínozzatok! Dobjatok a pöcegödörbe! Úgyhogy erre a könyvre is látatlanban öt csillagot adtam volna. Talán ez volt a gond. Végig az járt az eszemben, hogy én ezt máshogy írtam volna meg – ami nyilván a legócskább dolog, amit olvasó mondhat, mert erre az az adekvát válasz, hogy akkor nesze, írjad meg máshogy. Meg az is az eszemben járt, hogy a különböző történetek szereplői és szituációi felcserélhetők egymással – hogy tulajdonképpen újra és újra ugyanazt az elbeszélést olvasom. Tudom, ez a monománia, és hát vannak monomán írók. Sőt: vannak eszméletlenül jó monomán írók is. Elfogadom, hogy Bachmann is közéjük tartozik – csak nekem most nem esett jól. Talán szakaszokban kellett volna olvasnom, nem így egyben.

(Az igazság kedvéért tegyük hozzá, mert szeretem a lehúzós kritikát, de az igazságot jobban: két nagyon jó – talán mert konvencionálisabb –, és egy káprázatos novellát azért találtam benne. Az utolsó kisregényt is nagyra értékeltem, csak már jól ki lettem fárasztva előtte.)

I'm going to have to pass this up for a second reading, and - judging by the reviews on this site - apparently I'm not the only one. It fits perfectly what my book friend Lisa writes: “this (is a) novel of internalized female pain”, a hallucinatory portrait of a woman in Vienna whose psyche is at the mercy of different men. The first part was fairly easy to follow, with a clever evocation of a woman who swings back and forth between the 'adventurous' Ivan and the somewhat shadowy 'tower of strength' Malina. But then the second part, with a succession of what appears to be hallucinations of the same woman, admitted in a psychiatric institute and with bizarre scenes in which incest is explicitly discussed. I have to admit that in the course of the third part (200 pages into the book), after another chain of fragmented scenes which barely seemed to make sense, I gave up. Maybe external circumstances were at play when I read it, but I just couldn't put myself in the masochistic world of this writer anymore. I know that Bachmann is regarded as Thomas Bernard's source of inspiration, and a great deal of that was recognizable. But personally I think a link with Elfride Jelinek is much more obvious. As said, I'm putting this aside for a second reading, because the fact is that this book, this struggle, won't let you go.… (plus d'informations)
