Breaking the Nexus by Lindsay Avalon
18 recommended
This is the first book I read by this author. I absolutely fell in love with the story and the dialog between the characters. Sha and Conner are hilarious when they banter back and forth!! The story and the flow of the book is great and it is a easy fast paced read!! The characters are very realistic and I feel like I'm with them while they go through this book. The book is equipped with suspense, drama, action, and much more. The is an astounding read!!! I'm literally dying for the next book!!! HURRY UP DARN IT, LOL!! I look forward to reading more by this author.

This story is about Sha Phoenix who is a Sorceri and also a Sentinel that guards the Nexus that separates Mythrian realm and the human realm. Sha and Luca come across something that is unusual then Sha is thrust into the human world in the middle of a crime scene. Detective Conner sees Sha in the middle of the scene and tries to find out what happened. During this process, Sha and Conner come to rely on each other and their instincts to face the oncoming evil. I give this book a 5 star review and so so so want more.

Original review here: http://offbeatvagabond.blogspot.com/2013/03/interview-review-amazon-giftsswag.ht...

Breaking the Nexus follows a woman named Sha who lives in a different realm known as Mythria. All the creatures we believe are just mythical fairy tales all live in Mythria. Sha is one of the warriors in Mythria that protects the Nexus. The Nexus is what separates Mythria from the Human Realm. But there are gates or weak spots that have been created that let those creatures through into our world. Sha senses an even bigger problem, someone has been using very dangerous magic and before she knows what it is, she is thrown into the Human Realm. If that weren't bad enough, she lands right in the middle of a crime scene, which makes her the number one suspect. The detective, Connor, doesn't believe she is the killer they have been hunting, but gets the feeling she may be able to help find who did it. He thinks she is nuts due to her talk of magic and different realms, but soon finds out that she isn't crazy as she seemed. The things humans have never thought existed are coming through the cracks quickly and they must hurry to find the culprit before all hell breaks loose.

Holy crap was this book awesome. Everything I could ask for was in this book. Add this to your TBR list. You will not regret it. I loved our heroine Sha. She was quite the badass in this book. I loved how nothing phased her. Or at least she didn't let it show that nothing phased her. She could go up against the baddest of the bad and keep her cool. I loved that. Connor was a great lead as well. And sexy as hell. I loved the attraction between him and Sha. The both had me cracking up. I loved the banter between them. From the get go, you can tell they will really suit each other even though Connor has to fight it. She is a witness after all and it isn't a great idea to have the hots for someone whose case you are investigating. I also enjoyed Connor's partner, Ian. I loved how close they were. They were like brothers. I also want to know more about Alec. I knew there was something about him, but now I am very curious.

I loved the world Avalon created. I like the idea of everything we think isn't real is just out of our reach. It was scary thinking that someone wants to break the Nexus because they hate humans so much. Someone is using blood magic, the most dangerous magic, to weaken the Nexus. Once it is unleashed, the creatures are the least of the humans worries. There is something bigger that wants to get out and it has been trapped for a very, very long time. The only thing strong enough to kill it has been killed and are exceptionally rare to find.

I loved this book a lot. I loved the connection between Connor and Sha. They were incredible. They scenes together had me smiling one second and sweating the next. The story is epic and I can't wait for the sequel especially with that ending. Oh my goodness! Left my mouth hanging open. I want more now. It is quite dark in parts, just saying for those who are squeamish. It was pretty disturbing. This was a very exciting read. I was on edge trying to uncover the mystery of it all. Highly recommended for PNR and UF fans. I will be front row and center for the sequel and you will be too.

In the first of an exciting new series, Lindsay Avalon has created a new world to get lost in as you follow the action and root for the characters to maintain the Nexus.

Sha and Connor are inexplicably attracted to one another, even knowing that they should maintain distance and their banter and clever interior monologues helped to fix their characters solidly in the story. With the potential dangers should the Nexus be breached by the stuff of dreams and legend, there is a tension as characters must battle and outwit, trying to secure and alleviate the issues.

Adding to that, the human stories of a serial killer and the hunt to find and stop those crimes provides an interesting counterpoint and reveals Connor as more than just a simple human. A perfectly timed end-point will leave readers panting for the next installment, and has garnered this author a new fan.

If you appreciate the collide of several stories, set in a beautifully detailed world, with romantic tension, clever banter and a series of clever plot twists, this is the series for you.

I purchased an eBook copy of Breaking the Nexus for my own personal collection. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

In this book, the authors take a fairytale and put their own spin on it. Each story is different and yet the authors clearly fit their own style to match perfectly with the others.

The characters are interesting and the interpretations of the classic fairytale concept was fresh and truly creative.
