For some reason, I’d thought this book was devoted mostly to long-term care (LTC) insurance, but it’s actually about so much more. It’s a resource book about the whole universe of elder care (whether provided at home, or in senior residences, or in nursing homes) and how it’s paid for (Medicare, VA, Medicaid, private LTC insurance). It’s also a resource for where to find help and more information, and how to protect the elderly with legal directives and against fraud/scams.

I’ve read a few other books on this topic, written by people who’ve been through elder care with their parents (A Bittersweet Season and Passages in Caregiving come to mind). While they were helpful, they tended to be equal parts memoir and information. This book is wholly informative -- extremely practical, well organized, and written in simple, straightforward language that makes it an excellent resource.
