Rather than being a sinister sexual tale as I suspected it to be, this story contains much humour, and even when Jack – the anti-hero – is pushing his female victims to their sexual limits, at no point does any sense of horror creep through.

The anonymous author writes in a light-hearted tone throughout, often making me smile or even laugh. It’s as comical a tale as it is sexual. The well-spoken characters sound amusing when they suddenly use an expletive or ‘talk dirty’. Somehow what normally strikes the ear as offensive comes across as humorous in this novel

I seldom read erotica as I tend to find stories in this genre one-dimensional. I prefer ‘spicy’ tales that include sexiness rather than numerous graphic sex scenes; however, with this text being an old one and quite famous, I thought I’d give it a go.

Although at times I felt it was a bit repetitive, on the whole I enjoyed it. The aforementioned humour added to the tale, giving it more flavour.… (plus d'informations)

'Maid' in the title is used as a short form of maiden, rather than meaning a servant.

Alice jilted Jack, denying him his wedding night pleasures. His new lodgings comes with a soundproof room and he gets his revenge by taking Alice prisoner, stripping her, fomndling, spanking, sodmising and finally raping her. She is repeatedly brought to ecstatic heights and by the end of the day is a willing participant. Some weeks later they meet again for consensual sex and Alice mentions that her servant (a pert minx) needs bringing down a peg or two. They decide to give her the same treatment, this time with Alica adding a lesbian angle, and all depart happy.
Alice is lusting after her friend Connie and soon Connie is trussed up under the administations of Jack, Alice and her maid. Finally Jack and the three women capture Lady Bettie and her daughter Mollie who are given the same treatment and made to pleasure each other.

As this is part of a genre replete with strange combinations and odd publishing practices, it will be of no surprise that this 1993 Headline/Delta publication contains two distinct books: 'A Man With Three Maids', which is a sequel to the better, and better-known 'A Man With A Maid' from the same Edwardian era, and the novel 'Jade East', which is completely unrelated and from a much later period. The original novel 'A Man With A Maid' involved the capture and erotic treatment (with flagellation) by a man of his female friend, but 'Three Maids' (138pp) is more in line with other works of the period, involving standard erotic escapades with the original pair (Jack and Maud), Maud's mother, and the mother's ward. Fairly routine stuff. 'Jade East' (180pp), by contrast, is by far the more original, involving a woman supplied by her man friend to a Chinese gentleman, and by him to others for similar erotic purposes. The book is rather episodic, some episodes involving the woman being whipped, but it is quite fast-moving, and inventive, with many participating partners. Surprising, therefore, that despite its relative rarity within the genre, 'Jade East' is given such a low billing in the Headline/Delta edition.
