- Marion Polk Angellotti, born in California, was the daughter of a judge. In 1911 she published her first book, Sir John Hawkwood, based on the life of the 14th century English mercenary. Most of her works were short stories for pulp magazines such as Adventure, which included several others based on Hawkwood. She also wrote The Burgundian (1912) and Harlette (1913).
Her book/story The Firefly of France, based on fighter ace Georges Guynemer, was adapted into a 1918 Hollywood film. She served as a volunteer worker in France and Germany with the American Red Cross during World War I.
