From October 1978 to October 1979, Practical Computing magazine serialized this book, Illustrating BASIC by Donald Alcock. This book is unusually written by hand rather than typeset, and features little insects to show common programming errors or bugs.

I especially like this book because it is a work of art as well as being a well written technical manual.

This book was written by hand rather than typeset, truly a labor of love. Lessons are organized as double-paged spreads, each encapsulating a fundamental idea or topic. Each new idea includes a syntax summary, an operator summary, a library summary, and a comprehensive index. This book is an excellent introduction to standard C.
