Shortly after the end of World War II, James Aitkin was sent by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists to Europe. His task? To try to reestablish contact with our people on that continent had been uprooted by the war, and give them the physical, moral, and spiritual aid needed. Some months later he was made the young people's missionary volunteer secretary for what was then the southern European division, with headquarters in Berne, Switzerland. At that point the author, Jim's wife, joined him, and the Akins made their home in charming Switzerland.
