Courte biographie
Ruth Ainsworth was born in Manchester, England, a daughter of Rev. Percy Clough Ainsworth,a Methodist minister, and his wife Gertrude Fisk. Her father died from typhoid when she was a baby, and the family moved to Felixstowe. She was educated at Ipswich High School, Woolverstone, and later attended the Froebel Training Centre in Leicester. In 1935, she married chemist Frank Lathe Gilbert, with whom she had three sons. They initially settled in London, but their house was bombed during World War II, and they relocated to Porthmadog in North Wales. Ruth re-told classic fairy tales, and also wrote dozens of new stories in popular books published between 1936 and 1989. She worked as a scriptwriter for "Listen with Mother," a popular children's program on the BBC. Some of these scripts were published as Ruth Ainsworth's Listen with Mother Tales. A nice story about a mouse family in a railway station.

There are some mentions of poisoning mice as of course no restaurant does want mice living there however the mice might feel about it.

As a read aloud.
I only read The Bear Who Liked Hugging People and The Witch's Cat. I liked them both but the book is ready to be returned to the library.

I also own Boris the Teddy Bear by this author.

I used to own this book. I loved ghost stories when I was a kid. Actually, I still do.

One morning Mrs Candy's pets wake up with a restless and uncomfortable feeling. Mrs Candy is distracted and hasn't laid the fire or fed them their breakfast. In fact, where has Mrs Candy got to? ...It turns out she has found Shellover the Tortoise who has decided he would like to live in Mrs Candy's garden. Thankfully Shellover's speciality is stories, so he manages to win over Mrs Candy's other pets.

Shellover tells 10 very different, simple, gentle stories, perfect for reading aloud to ages 5+ and for confident young readers (suggest 6-9) to start reading themselves. My puffin paperback has some delightful illustrations by Antony Maitland to break up the text.… (plus d'informations)
