For me, Phillip Adams has always represented focussed reason and intelligent commentary in our media - his is a voice that doesn't need to shout, aggressively market or retreat to the cult of personality. His is a reassuring presence as Australia wades further into the mire of global discontent and uncertainty.

A big collection of Adams' columns, including a set from the 1980s originally published as "Adams vs God". I read it on and off over a month - it's good to read a couple at a time, but would definitely not suit a single sitting.

It's rather interesting that most of the 1980s material is just as relevant today - just change the names of the politicians and preachers. Adams writes about dozens of religious variants both christian and non, in a warm and gently witty style, with no vitriol and plenty of curiosity and kindness.
