This book is relatively rare, a biography of an IJN Admiral available in English. I believe it to be reasonably well researched, and translated adequately.

I can't say I felt there was much going on with this book. I didn't find anything bad or good about it. It was just a rather plain war novel with a very short chronicle of the Hiroshima bombing, which didn't even seem to fit into the main story.

If you haven't read Ibuse's [book:Black Rain] do so before you even think of reading this one.

Yamamoto seems able as a naval person, but is repellant as a man, paying little attention to his wife and children but doting on his geisha mistress. The account of the shooting down of the plane Yamamoto was in is detailed and full of interest. .An extraordinary book which often I found riveting.… (plus d'informations)
