I don't remember the other books having Amber talk so much like a wise school counselor. She really does know the right thing to do and say all too easily. Brandi definitely talks with more maturity than any 4th-grader I know. But that's ok - this is still funny, and valuable, and enjoyable. ( )

Summary:
Amber Brown Goes Fourth by Paula Danziger is a contemporary fiction book about a little girl named Amber Brown entering into the fourth grade. She has encountered some major life changes such as her best friend moving away, parents divorcing, and her dad moving out of the United States. She is having issues adjusting to the new lifestyle. She can not stand the fact that her mom is dating another man. Amber makes friends with a girl named Brandi and they become good friends making sure not to replace their former best friends.

Personal Reaction:
This was a good read because this is everyday life of children experiencing divorce and moving away from lives they once knew best and was accustomed to. Making new friends and loosing old ones is a hard thing to handle and go through and the book explained the story of this little girl with some art that kept my attention.

Extension Ideas:
The class could name some positive coping methods that they could do if they are experiencing divorcing parents, moving to a new place, and making new friends.
They could tell their experiences of the first day of school gitters and how they got over the first day ball of nerves.

The reason why I gave this book a five is because I really enjoyed reading this book, and also I can relate to Amber Brown because when I was her age I had to go through similar things she went through. I was just like Amber, when I move to a new school and grade I had to make a new friend and that was very hard. This book is about Amber Brown going to the fourth grade and she had to make a new friend because her friend Justin has moved away. Amber Brwon had to face situations such as having to make a new best friend, dealing with snotty girls, and facing her parents going through a divorce. All of these situations students or children that are in your classroom may experiences or face. This book can be use in the classroom setting by letting the students in the class write there own stories and also teach them about what protagonist because Amber Brown is a good example because she is the main character in the book.
