This review is for 'The Darkest Fire' and 'The Darkest Prison' ONLY

The Darkest Fire

This short story is a prequel to the Lords of the Underworld series but it’s not necessary to read this story to understand or enjoy the other books.
All throughout the LOTU series, Pandora’s box is said to have been made from the bones of the Goddess of Oppression. Kadence, the goddess, is spiritually bound to the wall of Hell. Geryon, Hell’s guardian, was a human who sold his soul to Lucifer. They’ve never talked while watching and guarding Hell’s gates but they’ve admired one another from afar. When the Demon Lords (demons like Violence, Death, Lies, Wrath, Distrust, etc) crack the wall, Kadence and Geryon band together to try and stop them from escaping and wrecking havoc on earth. They fall in love in the process and soon learn death isn’t always the end.
Though I’m glad to finally know more about the goddess and how her bones (the box) can hold the demons, I don’t think this story had much depth or detail. It’s nice to read through it but it just didn’t have much to do with the series overall.

The Darkest Prison

This short story is about Nike, the Greek goddess of Strength and Victory, and Atlas, the Titan god of Strength. It’s book 4.6 in the Lords of the Underworld series, meaning it comes right after the short story The Darkest Angel which is book 4.5.
Anyway, Atlas and Nike are enemies and lovers. She used to be his jailer and they’re love affair went awry, big time, thousands of years ago. Years, though, mean little to an immortal. Now, since the Titans broke free from Tartarus and imprisoned the Greeks, Atlas is now Nike’s jailer. They both believe they hate each other but the past few centuries had weakened that hatred, so much so that they’re in love with each without even realizing it. Once they do, however, their romance is super sweet and hot.
I loved the scene with Atlas in the throne room with Cronus and Sienna. Yep, that’s right. Paris’s Sienna. Though the Lords aren’t in this book, they’re mentioned and I’m so happy to see what’s become of Sienna, even though it’s not that great.
This story is a quick way to pass the time and it’s great to learn a bit about what’s going on up in the heavens. I don’t think it’s necessary to read this story to understand the series, but I enjoyed it.

Really enjoyed this little peek into the Lords of the Underworld and Atlantis series. I really loved the interview with William. Really makes me want to read the series. ( )

Not my favorite, but I think it's because her writing is more suited to full length novels than short stories and novella. I still think her work is excellent. ( )

The Darkest Fire:
This was a nice little story, even with the death and knowing the ending from the beginning. The two characters in this book are actually very good for each other. I think there is good chemistry and an excellent story. This story reminded me somewhat of P.C. Cast's 'Goddess of the Rose' as well. Just a thought, it's a Beauty and the Beast tale with hell, demons, and lots of fire.

The Amazon's Curse:
I haven't read many of Ms. Showalter's Atlantis series book as of yet. So I didn't know these characters like I knew of the characters in the previous story. This one was pretty short and to the point. The characters were already in love they just were having uh...issues. It was quickly resolved and there was a seriously sensual scene and everyone was happy. It was a very nice little story. I did have problems trying to figure out why Nola could be touched all of a sudden but I didn't want to over analyze it.

The Darkest Fire:
This is a short story about the Greek goddess Nike and the titan God Atlas. It offers a good glimpse at life in Tartarus, the location of the jailed Greek pantheon. Atlas and Nike have a weird and twisted relationship, you will see what I mean when you read the story. All in all this was a short, hot, explosive story. I liked it.

Book Extras:
There are a ton of awesome extras at the end of this book. A great interview at the end of the book, Kresley Cole does the interview with Gena Showalter. I heart them both, so it was awesome! The rest of the extras are like a LOTU companion guide. LOVE IT!

Loved this! The interviews William did with the Lords were hilarious. I loved seeing another side of the Lords and their women. Made me love them even more. ( )

THE DARKEST FIRE -- Every Day For Hundreds of years the goddess had visited Hell and every day Geryon had watched her from his station, desire heating his blood more than the flames of damnation beyond his post ever had.
THE AMAZON'S CURSE -- Nola stood in the center of the battle tent, watching as her sisters-by-race lined up. Each shifted eagerly from one foot to the other, clutching their weapon of choice.
THE DARKEST PRISON (Prologue) --- Reyes, once an immortal warrior for the gods, now possessed by the demon of Pain and living in Budapest, entered his bedroom. He was drenched in sweat and panting from the force of his workout. (Chapter 1) -- "Be still, Nike. You're only making this worse for yourself." Atlas, Titan god of Strength, stared down at the bane of his existence.
