Mistletoe was born on Christmas, and he was a festive set of colors not normally found on a cat! Shunned by everyone around him he grew up under porches and in trash cans, until the night he found a group of stray kittens in the snow. He picks them up and marches through the snow toward a point of light that turns out to be a house. When the children wake up in the morning they love the surprise of the kitten, they even love Mistletoe who has the best present of all, a family!

This story warmed my heart. I’m a big cat person, and love Christmas time so Mistletoe captured my heart and I had to get the book. It’s a wonderful Christmas read and the special edition comes with a cd recording of the story.

This book would be a great introduction to diversity. Mistletoe was green and red and had a striped candy-cane tail. Ask children how he was different from other cats? Why was the way he was treated in the beginning of the book wrong? You can also compare and contrast it with the original Christmas story, but with children outside of the classroom to avoid any troubles with political misconduct.
