This story started out slow for me but I stayed with it and then it got very interesting. Once all of the characters were introduced it was easy to follow the past & the present as it wove the story. Good mystery. The author didn't give too much information away early so it took awhile to figure it all out. I would recommend this book. ( ) Something of a departure for Neggers, this suspense novel with a bit of romance weaves in and out of time. The "present day" is 1989, with a prologue set thirty years earlier, and flashbacks from 1963 and 1975. A jewel theft in France sets off an intricately woven chain of events that ripples from Vietnam to Boston and back again.
