He dreams about a giant worm that lays eggs, just like he had been studying. The worm turns into a bookworm, who becomes a librarian. He asks the bookworm to show him his library. When he wakes up, the book light that he had lost in his dream was actually missing. This book was not my favorite. It would be an easy reader for primary students, but as an adult, I did not enjoy it. It does have vivid imagery, and it has a great resource section at the end. I enjoyed that it used bookworm as an actual worm. I think using this book for ELA, as an extension, could be beneficial to students to understand that sometimes words do not mean exactly what they represent. I could also use it in a reading group for younger students, interested in monsters. We could make creatures out of words that we aren't sure of the meaning. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

The Cave of the Bookworms is a fantasy about a little boy who fell asleep reading a comic book. He begins to dream about waking up from a nightmare. He runs to his window and sees his bike. He feels the need to go ride deep into a dark forest until he reaches a deep hole in the ground as he climbs down the hole the reading light he has attached to his shirt shines down on a man trapped in a web surrounded by worm eggs. Then a giant worm appears and the little boy shines his light and blinds the worm. The worm thrashed back and forth, damaging the eggs, and freeing the man that was trapped.
The little boy was knocked down by the tail of the worm but the man helped him up and introduced himself as a librarian. Once the worm came to he lunges at the little boy and he jumps out his sleep to find that his reading light is nowhere to be found.
Personal Reaction:
I did not care for this particular fantasy book. I found myself trying to hurry up and get through with reading it. This book did not peak my interest.
Extension Ideas:
The class could write their own fantasy.
They could write a fantasy about dreams they had before.
