The Boston Globe's Number One bestseller is back, revised and updated for the 2005 season. Jerry Remy's name and face are already known to millions of fans. Every night during the baseball season, 400,000 or more households tune in to listen to his broadcast of the Red Sox game. But fans learned to love him years ago, when he was traded to the Red Sox in 1978, earning a trip to the All-Star Game in his first year with the team; Remy hit .278, scored eighty-seven runs, and stole thirty bases. Injured in 1984, Remy never played another game. In 1988, he began his work as an announcer, working color commentary for Red Sox broadcasts on NESN, which is a basic cable channel throughout New England and available by satellite across the country. He covers more than 150 games per season for NESN and broadcast television, plus regular assignments on the national Fox Game of the Week. But the best part of Jerry Remy is his easy style: listeners feel like they're having a beer with a friend while they're watching the game. If spectators just follow the ball, they are missing much of the game. Baseball is a lot more complex than that. Everyone talks about second-guessing the manager; and there's a lot of fun in that for everyone except the manager. Those opinions can be heard all day on the sports talk shows and read in the newspaper columns. But if the people are really going to get into the game, they need to start first-guessing. That's what this book is all about.… (plus d'informations)

t took my almost two seasons (and not even good ones!) to finish this. It was very informative but I felt like I needed to know alot more about baseballl at the start than I did. I still enjoyed it but I didn't learn as much as had hoped.

NESN sportscaster Jerry Remy offers a basic guide to the game of baseball explaining a lot of the terminology used by announcers as well as some of the strategy and insiders tips about the game. I'll have to say I learned a thing or two and that Remy's book is good for newcomers and lifelong baseball fans alike. He also does promote himself quite a bit. ( )

I'll start by stating that I'm a huge baseball fan. I picked up this book before last season to help pass the time until opening day. While I'll admit that much of the information in this book is maybe for people that aren't real familiar with the game, I still found a lot of great stuff. Remy has certainly watched a lot more baseball than I have and he pointed out a number of things that have made the game even more interesting for me. I wasn't expecting a lot from the book but I came away pleasantly surprised.

I did, however, get really tired of his phrase "a long way the other direction" (or something like that) when he was talking about throwing a bad pitch.

A great book for people that are trying to learn more about the game - a pretty darn good book for those that are already big fans. No, it doesn't get deep inside the game but it does give you a little more insight on the "game inside the game". ( )

Lots and lots and lots of info-
I skimmed parts of it - Remy goes into quite a bit of detail in places. Overall, an excellent behind-the-scenes book covering the ins and outs of baseball. Good reference.
