The Magic School Bus is one of my favorite chapter book series because they are informational with a little twist of fun! I gave this book 5/5 stars because it briefly teaches young readers about how the food chain works. I liked how this book specifically includes pictures from the notebook the kids inside the book were reading such as a page about atoms and molecules, photosynthesis, types of eaters, etc. In addition to informational diagrams such as the pyramid about carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores. This would be a great book for students in second grade because they begin reading chapter books but still enjoy seeing pictures and become curious about how different species work. ( )

This has a fun storyline to engage students, but it also has a lot of facts to learn about animals. It also has some pictures and charts to follow along with as well. It’s very easy to read with a lot of facts. ( )

The big purpose of this story is that it is better to explore and comprehend information opposed to just memorizing it . I like this book because it pushes the reader to broaden their knowledge on science, and they understand how important it is to understand why and how things happen. In one section of the book the dialogue said:
“How can I research about plants making food with all of this guck?”
“It’s more than just guck,” Wanda said.
“Its water and carbon dioxide gas! Those are the ingredients plants need to make food, remember?”
Dialogue such as this also allows the reader to critically analyze by asking questions.
I also liked that the author includes journal entries throughout the book; one entry by Tim said, “Most of the food we eat includes carbohydrates. Carbohydrates can store energy- and both plants and animals use carbohydrates to live and grow. All carbohydrates are made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.” These journals allow the readers to connect to the characters on a student level. The journals have creative titles and they are all written in seemingly children’s handwriting. ( )

This was a very creative book that taught children about the food chain for animals. I recommend this book to every child because it is important that they know this information. ( )
