Christmas isn't about getting the gifts, it is about helping others. That feels better than any gift. ( )

Santa Duck is a book that is considered fiction. The books is written and illustrated by David Milgrim. The main character in the book is a duck. The plot of the book is finding Santa. The theme of this book is getting what you want or deserve. In this book, the duck is looking for Santa so he can tell him what he wants. He ends up going to town in a Santa outfit. All of his friends, who are animals, do not recognize him. Each one either thinks that he is really Santa, or that he is Santa's helper. They all begin to tell the Duck what they want for Christmas. Eventually, he convinces one of his friends to take the outfit from him. So, will he find Santa and tell him what he wants for Christmas? Will he tell Santa what everyone wants? Will he get what he wants for Christmas? ( )

The day before Christmas, Nicholas Duck received an unexpected gift. Someone had left him a Santa suit! He put it on and frolicked merrily on his way. Soon, however, other animals started coming up to him listing off things they wanted for Christmas and calling him Santa Duck. Nicholas was confused and got so frustrated he ran away. He ran and ran until suddenly he ran right into the actual Santa Claus! Santa thanked him for all his help and hoped he would help him out again next year. Nicholas went to bed on Christmas Eve not worried about what gifts he might receive, but was just happy with being able to help Santa.

David Milgrim uses a mixture of narration and speech bubble dialogue throughout this book. The words inside each speech bubble are hand written, compared to the standard font that makes up the narration. The speech bubbles also differ in size, depending on how Milgrim wants the reader to depict the level of volume the characters are speaking in. The reader will be able to tell that big, bold speech bubbles are for louder voices, while smaller ones are for softer voices. Also, in quite a few speech bubbles Milgrim includes musical notes to indicate a character is singing instead of just talking. ( )
