"The Other Side" is about a young girl who lives during the time of segregation in America. Her house and her neighbor's house is separated by a long wooden fence, which her and her neighbor sit on. The artwork of this story is really well done and is just absolutely extraordinary. Two primary themes that are present are friendship and identity. I would recommend this book to first-third graders, as I think this age group could appreciate the story and its themes better than younger students. That's not to say that younger students couldn't appreciate this book, it just may be harder for them do understand the full story and the themes. This book is good for a primary age group, or for an older age group to teach about metaphors. It's about two little girls - one black, one white - that form a friendship sitting on the fence between their properties. I would certainly have it in my classroom both to teach about metaphors and to highlight the pointless things that sometimes separate us. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
