It’s tragically not really about a cat, which was what I signed up for. It is more about the cats owners and the sort of idiotic nature of being human which is fine. It just takes way too long to repeat essentially the same interaction over and over. I only got as far as page 22 (the start of the second chapter of 8) -- a hungry calico tortoiseshell stray finds a reluctant home with a struggling writer/artist in Ch. 1; in chapter 2 he appears to have gained some notoreity beyond his human's comprehension. The introduction notes that the author was still figuring out the best format/length for his serialized essays for the first few installments/chapters, so you expect some unevenness in pacing, but it was pretty boring at this point. I think I've gotten as much out of it that I care to, though other readers (cat fanciers?) might enjoy it more. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Written over the course of 1904-1906, Soseki Natsume's comic masterpiece, I Am a Cat, satirizes the foolishness of upper-middle-class Japanese society during the Meiji era. With acerbic wit and sardonic perspective, it follows the whimsical adventures of a world-weary stray kitten who comments on the follies and foibles of the people around him. A classic of Japanese literature, I Am a Cat is one of Soseki's best-known novels. Considered by many as the greatest writer in modern Japanese history, Soseki's I Am a Cat is a classic novel sure to be enjoyed for years to come. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
