Preface -- The purpose of this book is to show how man's idea of God developed from prehistoric antiquity to the time of Christ, and to place his development in its historical context.
Chapter I: New Horizons in History -- The led shed by the discoveries of modern archaeology on the history of civilization is apparent to all, but the bearing of these discoveries on the study of underlying historical processes is not yet generally understood.
